Excel Training 2012 (01/23/2012) Question, what would one pay to become an Advanced Excel VBA Programmer? Let’s say that you are a low level Excel user and you have decided to become proficient with Excel based VBA. If a course was offered where you could learn all of the code necessary, as well as why the code is used the way that it is, what would you pay for it? Of course the course cannot give you experience, but it can provide a shortcut from a beginner to advanced Excel consultant. The ‘why’ you do what you do would take place of experience. Knowing when to use this type of code versus that type of code, say a certain loop for example, could shave a lot of time off of the learning curve, taking it from theory to practice. Excel 2011 (01/21/2012) I do not know if you deal with Microsoft Excel 2011, but we do. I have so many new clients that come to us for help with their Excel 2011 for the Mac needs that it has really caught my attention. In the past I might see a file now and then, but now a week hardly goes by where we do not get a new Excel consulting services project that requires Mac experience. As funny as this sounds, you can actually program Excel for the Mac without having a Mac. And it works. Do you own a Mac? If so, do you do Excel consulting for it? Do you know others that have a Mac that runs Parallels? Have you thought about buying a Mac? I own a couple, and I prefer them over my Dell machines. I do run Parallels on them, with Microsoft Office 2010 and Windows 7. But I also run Excel 2008 and Excel 2011. What can I say, I love my Macs. The Excel Directory Part 1 (11/21/2011) Okay, we are going to run a series on The Directory of Excel Experts, in little pieces, to keep your interest, or should I say my interest. Part 1. If you have been to any of the major LinkedIn Excel groups you might have seen a discussion or two in the Directory of Excel Experts. It would probably be hard to miss the hype we have been throwing out there. The Directory of Excel Experts is just that, a directory. A web based directory to be exact. To be even more exact it is at its core a listing of the world’s Excel experts with a link to their web site. That is the core purpose of the site. To list the expert and a link to their site. That is what web based directories do, SEO. This directory is no different. So when it is fully populated it will list a lot of experts, with a link to each of their websites. Google will give each of them a SEO boost. Now this site does much much more than that. In reality the link is only 5% of what this site is about. This site is actually a resource rich site that promotes the Excel experts, their work, their sites, and it allows them to share what they do with the world, if, and only if they choose to do so. Did I mention that it is searchable? So if someone is looking for an Excel expert they can come to this site and find one? Need an Excel expert in Texas, this site will have all of them listed. Need an Excel expert in Manchester that speaks at seminars, this site will have all of them listed. Every Excel expert can list every book they have written, right here, on the directory, for free. Think about it. If someone wants to find a good book on Excel, they can look thru every book available, right here, on one site. No sales pressure, because the site does not sale them, Amazon or such does that. We just list them and their summary, etc. The site will list all of the major forums. It will list all of the major blogs. Think of it as a hub for existing expert sites. It will not compete with the expert sites such as Mr. Excel or VBAExpress, rather it will feed traffic to them. Who wins, the Excel expert and the site visitor. The user can learn more about Excel, and the Excel expert can better serve the Excel community, while getting an SEO boost. The site opens for registration soon. Take a look. It will be a great resource. If you are an Excel expert we want you listed.

Okay, we are going to run a long series on Google AdWords, in little pieces, to keep your interest. Part 18. I was looking thru ads tonight and I saw something worth writing about. I typed’ expert excel consultants’ into Google and saw two ads for two different sites with the exact same text, except for the site address. Everything else was exactly the same. They did not show up on the screen at the same time, but the showed up a few minutes apart, for the same search term, expert excel consultants. I looked at the sites, then discovered they were owed by the same company. So that is why the ads were the same. So not so exciting. I prefer to write about things that are more exciting, like firms that click on their competitor’s ads and such, but not tonight, leave the ‘X Files topics for another night. Google AdWords: Part Fifteen (11/09/2011) Okay, we are going to run a long series on Google AdWords, in little pieces, to keep your interest. Part 15. Okay, so tonight I ran several ads to see if I could find anything interesting and it took me almost 15 minutes to do so, after trying really hard. Eventually what I came up with was singular versus plural. Sounds boring, but it totally changes the results. Try it for Excel expert versus Excel experts, Excel consult versus Excel consultants, Excel programmer versus Excel programmers, and the results are not the same, you get different companies running different ads. Google AdWords: Part Fourteen (11/08/2011) Okay, we are going to run a long series on Google AdWords, in little pieces, to keep your interest. Part 14. Today when I ran my search for ‘Excel consultants’ I came across a free WordPress site that is rather interesting in that they are paying for ads, but the site does not look like an Excel consultant site? It has the word ‘Excel’ on it several times, but it looks like a site that is about growing oranges not about Excel consulting. No really. They have pictures of someone planting orange trees. And the index is the only page with pictures. It is also interesting in that the site has a contact page and a quote page, but it does not have a phone number or e-mail address, nor relevant information on the about us page. They say if you contact them they will get back to you in 24 hours. I wonder what they are paying for those clicks and how much they pay per day. Don’t get me wrong, I am not putting down the site, I am just wondering why they are paying for ads if the site looks like they are selling oranges, not Excel Consultant services, and I am just doing so for entertainment purposes.
