Microsoft & Accountancy (03/19/2012)
Do you know what are the differences between a CPA in the USA and an ACA in the UK? I personally know many individuals in both countries that belong to one group or the other. Other than their obvious accent, you would not know the difference of which group they belong.
You may or may not know this, but in the United States active CPAs are required to earn CPEs each year in order to maintain their ‘active’ CPA status. They are required to do a similar thing in the United Kingdom. There are many ways in which they may accomplish this. One way for them to do this is by taking certified courses in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access. Doing so will expand their Excel or Access programming skills. Of course this will not make an Excel consultant or Access programmer out of them, but it will strengthen their Excel and Access development skills, which they can immediately use on the job. A good example would be how to use Microsoft Excel 2010’s new Power Pivot feature, which is a great tool if you have large datasets. Another example would be to learn advanced ways to use an Excel HLookup, or better yet, Index/Match.
In case you missed it, there is a brand new group on LinkedIn.Com that is just for CPAs, ACAs, and accounting professionals. Here is the link , to the group, take a look, and if you are interested, join the group and add your experiences.
